The idea that one’s thoughts will cause either success or failure is pretty common in metaphysical and psychological literature. Authors make an easy killing by rehashing information that’s actually been known for centuries and packaging it for the self-help crowd. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing- if it helps someone acheive his or her goals, then right on.
I just hope that The Secret isn’t something of that nature. My theory at this point is that they’re going to allude to something first to leave viewers with a continuing sense of anticipation, then try to sell something. They understand, to the fullest possible extent, how the mind works, and they know that they can transfix the population by promising wealth, power, and the fulfillment of all of one’s personal goals.
What I do hope for is that they will reveal that we’ve been in contact with alien civilizations. I don’t mean to imply that we in fact HAVE been- but I could think of nothing less groundbreaking to the human race. In any case it’s been stated that the show will premiere this month so it can’t be too long now. Right?
